We recently had our downstairs residential heat pump fail after 17 years of service. Given the age of the system, and the newer technology available, it made sense to replace both the downstairs and upstairs systems (3- and 2-ton units respectively). I obtained quotes from 4 different installers and ultimately, we selected the Mitsubishi Hyperheat systems as the replacement. Brian at SWVA Mechanical gave us the best price and best answers to our questions and we selected them to do the work. I don't think it could have gone any better. They showed up when they said they would, staged the work so that we could stay warm (installed in December), were respectful of our property and answered all of our questions. All of the SWVA Mechanical workers were friendly, cheerful, and most importantly knowledgeable and competent. Brian encouraged us to consider the Mitsubishi Hyperheat system which would function as a heat pump to below 0 degrees F. Frankly, I had my doubts that a system without auxiliary heat would function properly at such low temperatures without an auxiliary heat source. However, this review is being written 1 week after some of the coldest temperature in years (as low as 6 degrees F and -1-degree wind chill) and I can testify that my house stayed at the temperature set point throughout this very cold period, and in fact my house has been more comfortable than it ever has in similar conditions. I have temperature monitoring data that proves the system worked as Brian said it would. Additionally, the numbers show significant electricity savings compared to the operation of the old system. I will also mention that Brian and his partner Nick, were persistent in being able to get a relatively new steam humidifier installed about 2 years ago to work with the Mitsubishi heat pump and air handler. That required a lot of effort on their part, and a non-standard installation that went beyond the manufacturers’ instructions. I can verify that what they did worked, that it was done properly and is functioning as it should. To reiterate, I would highly recommend SWVA VA Mechanical to anyone in need of their services. They check all the boxes... knowledge, expertise, dependability, reliability, and integrity. Based on our experiences, we intend to use them to service our new system in the future and would not hesitate to work with them again. In my opinion, and based on my past experiences, it would be very hard to do better than SWVA Mechanical in this line of work and expertise.

I had emergency when the heating system stopped working during the coldest days these past 2 months and Brain came the same day I called SWVM. No other HVAC company in the area would even give me an estimate of when they could come. Brain got the system running just in time for the lows in the teens the next few nights. If you need help this company will do all they can to help you. I would highly reccommend them.

Recently had an installation as well as a preventative maintenance on another unit. I received good communication about scheduling and pricing and they answered any question I had. They showed up on time and performed the work well. After the install, Brian came by to make sure I was happy with the install and that I was fully taken care of. Subsequently for the preventative maintenance that Samuel performed, he thoroughly cleaned and tested the units and communicated to me the way that the unit was originally wired may not be optimal and explained the pros/cons of making a minor adjustment which I had him do. I'm very happy with the service provided and plan to use SWVA Mechanical for any future HVAC needs.

I can't say enough good about the folks at SWVA mechanical. They came to my house and quoted the Mitsubishi unit to me and I had it installed within a few weeks. Every tech was very professional and respectful while in our home and did an outstanding job. I had one company give me a quote for the same system and it was over $4000.00 more than what Brian at SW VA Mechanical quoted, plus the other company didn't want to even talk about the Mitsubishi units that have the best reputation in the business. These more efficient units will save us money on our electric bill and they are so quiet you can't even hear them run. If you need a HVAC system or just need your old system repaired, give Brian at SW VA Mechanical at call and you will not be disappointed. They are more than fair on their prices and will treat you with respect and not try to burn you up on the charges. They are my new HVAC company. Scott Beverly

Prep Table Fridge Repair Service

Our commercial repair service begins with a rapid and accurate diagnosis of the problem. When a prep table fails, every minute counts to prevent the spoilage of valuable food inventory. Our technician will immediately assess the unit’s symptoms, whether it is not cooling, making a loud noise, or has lost power. We use professional-grade tools to test the temperature, check electrical components, and analyze the refrigeration system. This allows us to quickly find the root cause of the failure. Our goal is to provide a swift diagnosis so we can proceed with an effective repair.

The most critical failure is a prep table that is not cooling or holding its temperature. This problem requires immediate attention. The most common cause is a severely clogged condenser coil that has forced the compressor to overheat and shut down on its safety overload. The issue could also be a failed condenser or evaporator fan motor, which stops air from moving across the coils. In other cases, the problem may be a faulty thermostat, a refrigerant leak, or a complete compressor failure. Our technicians can diagnose any of these issues.

A prep table that is leaking water onto the kitchen floor creates a dangerous slip hazard. This problem is typically caused by a clog in the condensate drain line. Food debris and slime can easily block this small tube, causing water from the evaporator coil to back up and overflow. The condensate evaporator pan, which is designed to dissipate this water, could also be cracked or overflowing. Our technicians can quickly clear the clogged drain or repair the condensate pan to resolve the leak and make your kitchen safe again.

If your prep table will not turn on at all, the issue is electrical. Our technicians will start by checking the dedicated circuit breaker and the unit’s power cord. If power is reaching the unit, the problem may be a faulty main power switch. More often, the failure lies with the electronic temperature controller or thermostat. These digital controllers are the brains of the unit, and when they fail, the entire system will go dead. We can test and replace these electronic components to restore power and operation to your prep table.

Repairs to the sealed refrigeration system must be performed by a certified professional. These are the most complex and serious repairs. A failed compressor, which is the heart of the system, will prevent any cooling and often requires a major repair or replacement of the unit. The fan motors that cool the condenser and circulate air in the cabinet can also burn out. A leak in the refrigerant lines will cause a gradual loss of cooling. Our technicians are EPA certified to safely work on these sealed systems, handle refrigerant, and restore your unit’s cooling power.

Often, poor temperature control can be traced back to a failure of the unit’s physical seals. The gaskets that line the doors, drawers, and rail lids are essential for efficiency. If these gaskets become torn, brittle, or flattened, they will not create an airtight seal. This allows cold air to constantly escape, forcing the unit to run nonstop. We can replace worn-out gaskets to restore a proper seal. We can also repair or replace broken hinges and drawer slides that prevent the doors and drawers from closing tightly.

We understand that for a business, unexpected repair costs can be a major challenge. That is why we are committed to upfront and transparent pricing. After our technician completes the diagnosis, you will receive a detailed explanation of the problem. We will provide you with a firm price quote for the necessary parts and labor before we begin any work. This allows you to approve the repair with full knowledge of the cost. Our goal is to get your kitchen line back to full operation as quickly and affordably as possible.

Most Common Prep Table Refrigeration Repair Questions

When a critical piece of your kitchen’s equipment fails, you need answers fast. Business owners and kitchen managers in Lebanon often have similar urgent questions about prep table repairs. We have answered some of the most common ones below.

When a refrigerated prep table suddenly stops cooling, the most common culprit is a severely clogged condenser coil. The coil gets clogged with kitchen grease and dust, which prevents the unit from releasing heat. This causes the compressor to overheat and shut itself off as a protective measure. The unit’s internal lights and fans may still be on, but the cooling system will not run until the compressor cools down and is reset. A technician will need to thoroughly clean the coil to solve this issue.

Another very common cause is a failed fan motor. Your prep table has at least two fans: one to cool the condenser and one to circulate cold air inside the cabinet. If either of these fans fails, the unit will not be able to cool effectively. A faulty thermostat or temperature controller is another frequent issue. If the thermostat is not correctly sensing the temperature, it will not tell the compressor to turn on when it should. These are all common points of failure in a demanding kitchen environment.

While less common, the problem could also be more serious. A refrigerant leak will cause a gradual loss of cooling over time, while a sudden compressor failure will stop all cooling immediately. Our diagnostic process is designed to quickly determine whether you are facing a simple maintenance-related issue or a more significant component failure.

The cost to repair a commercial refrigerated prep table can vary significantly. The final price depends entirely on the part that has failed. Many common repairs are relatively affordable for a business. For instance, replacing a torn door gasket, a faulty thermostat, or a broken door hinge are all on the lower end of the cost spectrum. These repairs involve common parts and can often be completed quickly, minimizing labor costs. Cleaning a clogged condensate drain is another example of a low-cost, common repair.

The price increases for major electrical or mechanical components. Replacing a failed condenser or evaporator fan motor is a moderately expensive repair. The same is true for replacing a digital temperature controller or a gas-charged lid lift assembly. These parts are more costly, and the labor required to access and install them is more involved. These are often necessary investments to keep a valuable piece of kitchen equipment running.

The most expensive repairs involve the sealed refrigeration system. A compressor replacement is a major repair and a significant expense. The cost of the part and the extensive, certified labor required can be substantial. For a major failure like this on an older unit, we will always provide you with both the repair cost and a quote for a new machine. This allows you to make a sound business decision about whether to repair or replace the equipment.

We understand that in a commercial kitchen, every minute of downtime matters. Our entire repair process is structured to get your prep table back in service as quickly as possible. We stock our service vehicles with a wide range of common parts for commercial prep tables. This includes thermostats, fan motors, door gaskets, and temperature controllers for major brands. If the failure is one of these common components, our goal is to complete the repair in a single visit, often in just a few hours.

The repair will take longer if a specific, non-stocked part needs to be ordered. A major component like a specific compressor or a proprietary electronic control board may need to be sourced from a local supply house or the manufacturer. In these cases, we will leverage our supplier relationships to get the part as quickly as possible, often by the next business day. We will give you a clear timeline for the part’s arrival and schedule the completion of the repair immediately.

Our technicians are trained to work efficiently and professionally in a busy kitchen environment. We will work to minimize our footprint and not interfere with your staff any more than necessary. We will communicate with you throughout the process, providing updates on our progress and the estimated time until the unit is back online. Our priority is to get your prep line fully operational with minimal disruption.

This is a critical business decision that requires a careful cost-benefit analysis. The first factor to consider is the age of the unit. A commercial prep table in a busy kitchen has a tough life and typically has a reliable lifespan of five to eight years. If your unit is older than this and is facing a major repair, it is often more financially prudent to invest in a new, reliable unit. An old unit is likely to experience more frequent breakdowns, leading to ongoing disruption and repair costs.

You must compare the cost of the repair to the price of a new prep table. If the repair cost exceeds 50% of the replacement cost, replacement is almost always the smarter long-term decision. Investing a large sum of money into an aging piece of equipment rarely pays off. You should also consider the cost of lost business and spoiled food from an unreliable older unit. The cost of one or two significant breakdowns can sometimes equal the down payment on a new, more efficient machine.

Finally, consider the energy efficiency of a new unit. Modern prep tables are often more energy-efficient than older models, which can provide some savings on your monthly utility bills. Our technicians will always provide you with a clear quote for the repair. We can also provide you with pricing for a new replacement unit. This allows you to make a fully informed business decision based on your budget and operational needs.

If the digital temperature display on your prep table is blank, it indicates an electrical issue. The unit is either not receiving power, or the display controller itself has failed. The first thing our technician will do is verify that the unit is plugged in and that the circuit breaker it is on has not tripped. We will also test the electrical outlet to ensure it is providing the correct voltage. This rules out any problems with your building’s electrical supply.

If the outlet is working correctly, the problem is internal to the prep table. The issue could be a faulty power cord or a bad main power switch. More frequently, a blank display means that the electronic temperature controller has failed. This controller is the brain of the unit; it functions as both the thermostat and the temperature display. When this component fails, the display will go blank, and the refrigeration system will not receive a signal to turn on.

A failed controller must be replaced. Our technicians can test the controller to confirm it is the point of failure. We can then source and install the correct OEM or compatible replacement controller for your specific make and model. This is a common repair for modern commercial refrigeration equipment and is a service our technicians perform regularly.

The coil located inside the refrigerated cabinet is the evaporator coil. It should normally have a thin layer of frost on it, but it should not be encased in a solid block of ice. If you see a heavy ice buildup, it is a sign of a problem that is preventing the unit from cooling properly. A thick layer of ice acts as an insulator, which blocks air from flowing through the coil. This will cause the temperature inside the prep table to rise to unsafe levels, even though the system is running.

The most common cause of a frozen evaporator coil is a lack of airflow. This is often due to a failed or weak evaporator fan motor. This fan is supposed to constantly circulate air across the coil. If it stops, the coil will get too cold and freeze over. The issue could also be caused by staff over-piling food products in a way that blocks the airflow to and from the coil.

Another major cause of a frozen coil is a problem with the refrigeration system itself, such as a low refrigerant charge. On units that have a defrost cycle, a failure of the defrost timer or heater can also lead to ice buildup. A technician will need to diagnose the root cause, whether it is an airflow or a refrigeration issue. They will then need to safely thaw the coil before performing the necessary repair.

For the safety of your staff and to prevent further damage to the equipment, we strongly advise against having untrained personnel attempt to fix a commercial prep table. Beyond basic troubleshooting like checking the power, all repairs should be handled by a certified refrigeration technician. These are complex pieces of equipment that contain high-voltage electrical circuits and high-pressure refrigerant. An attempted repair by an unqualified person can easily lead to electrical shock, severe burns from refrigerant, or further damage to the unit.

This also represents a significant liability for your business. If an employee is injured while attempting a repair they are not trained for, it can lead to a serious workplace safety issue. Furthermore, an incorrect repair can create a fire hazard or compromise the food safety of the unit. For example, incorrectly wiring a new thermostat could cause the unit to not cycle properly, leading to food spoilage. The financial and legal risks associated with a DIY repair in a commercial setting are simply too great.

By using a professional, licensed, and insured technician from SWVA Mechanical, you are protecting your staff, your equipment, and your business. Our technicians have the training, tools, and experience to perform the repair safely and correctly. This ensures the job is done right the first time and that your equipment will continue to operate reliably.

The single best way to prevent costly and inconvenient future repairs is to invest in a regular, preventative maintenance plan. The vast majority of emergency repair calls for prep tables are for problems that could have been prevented with routine maintenance. The most common failure, a clogged condenser coil leading to compressor failure, is entirely preventable with quarterly professional cleaning. Regular maintenance is a proactive strategy that saves you a significant amount of money and stress in the long run.

A maintenance visit allows a technician to catch small problems before they become big ones. We can identify a worn-out fan motor before it seizes up. We can spot a torn door gasket before it causes your compressor to run constantly and burn out. We can clean a sluggish drain line before it clogs completely and floods your kitchen floor. This preventative approach is always less expensive than the reactive approach of waiting for a major breakdown to occur.

By signing up for a maintenance agreement with SWVA Mechanical, you are taking the most effective step possible to ensure the reliability of your kitchen equipment. Our scheduled visits will keep your prep tables running efficiently, safely, and in compliance with health codes. It is the smartest and most cost-effective way to manage your refrigeration assets and prevent the disruption of unexpected repairs.
