Honest Reviews From Our Clients
Homeowners across Southwest Virginia trust SWVA Mechanical for HVAC services that are done right the first time. Here’s what real customers have to say about their experience:
We recently had our downstairs residential heat pump fail after 17 years of service. Given the age of the system, and the newer technology available, it made sense to replace both the downstairs and upstairs systems (3- and 2-ton units respectively). I obtained quotes from 4 different installers and ultimately, we selected the Mitsubishi Hyperheat systems as the replacement. Brian at SWVA Mechanical gave us the best price and best answers to our questions and we selected them to do the work. I don't think it could have gone any better. They showed up when they said they would, staged the work so that we could stay warm (installed in December), were respectful of our property and answered all of our questions. All of the SWVA Mechanical workers were friendly, cheerful, and most importantly knowledgeable and competent. Brian encouraged us to consider the Mitsubishi Hyperheat system which would function as a heat pump to below 0 degrees F. Frankly, I had my doubts that a system without auxiliary heat would function properly at such low temperatures without an auxiliary heat source. However, this review is being written 1 week after some of the coldest temperature in years (as low as 6 degrees F and -1-degree wind chill) and I can testify that my house stayed at the temperature set point throughout this very cold period, and in fact my house has been more comfortable than it ever has in similar conditions. I have temperature monitoring data that proves the system worked as Brian said it would. Additionally, the numbers show significant electricity savings compared to the operation of the old system. I will also mention that Brian and his partner Nick, were persistent in being able to get a relatively new steam humidifier installed about 2 years ago to work with the Mitsubishi heat pump and air handler. That required a lot of effort on their part, and a non-standard installation that went beyond the manufacturers’ instructions. I can verify that what they did worked, that it was done properly and is functioning as it should. To reiterate, I would highly recommend SWVA VA Mechanical to anyone in need of their services. They check all the boxes... knowledge, expertise, dependability, reliability, and integrity. Based on our experiences, we intend to use them to service our new system in the future and would not hesitate to work with them again. In my opinion, and based on my past experiences, it would be very hard to do better than SWVA Mechanical in this line of work and expertise.
I had emergency when the heating system stopped working during the coldest days these past 2 months and Brain came the same day I called SWVM. No other HVAC company in the area would even give me an estimate of when they could come. Brain got the system running just in time for the lows in the teens the next few nights. If you need help this company will do all they can to help you. I would highly reccommend them.
Recently had an installation as well as a preventative maintenance on another unit. I received good communication about scheduling and pricing and they answered any question I had. They showed up on time and performed the work well. After the install, Brian came by to make sure I was happy with the install and that I was fully taken care of. Subsequently for the preventative maintenance that Samuel performed, he thoroughly cleaned and tested the units and communicated to me the way that the unit was originally wired may not be optimal and explained the pros/cons of making a minor adjustment which I had him do. I'm very happy with the service provided and plan to use SWVA Mechanical for any future HVAC needs.
Called with HVAC issue on Monday had a resolution by Tuesday morning. Owner Nick is amazing. Goes above and beyond for his customers. Technician that came out was 5 star! Polite, conscientious regarding cleanliness, and super helpful. Pricing is extremely reasonable. I will never use another company!
Nick Cross and his team are amazing. Did a great job for us. They are polite, professional and knowledgable. Our challenge is with a house built in 1913 and their work has given us more control over our HVAC system and made our living space more comfortable. Price was very reasonable. Highly recommended.
Samuel came out and did a great job!! He serviced my unit inside and outside. Company was amazing to begin with. Answered and returned my calls every time. They were prompt in letting me know when they would arrive and informed me of all repairs before doing anything. Amazing job!! Highly recommended.
Highly Recommend! Brian and his team done an outstanding job installing my new Mitsubishi mini splits. I couldn’t have asked for a better HVAC Team than SWVA Mechanicals!
I recently had a heat pump replaced by SWVA and they did an excellent job. As we were weighing the options of repairing my old system and the cost and benefit of the new system they were very helpful. I never felt they were trying to up-sale me. I especially appreciate the fast service both on the repairs I needed on my old system and with this new install. I was in a bind because it was winter but they had me up and running with a new system fast. I would highly recommend them again!
I can't say enough good about the folks at SWVA mechanical. They came to my house and quoted the Mitsubishi unit to me and I had it installed within a few weeks. Every tech was very professional and respectful while in our home and did an outstanding job. I had one company give me a quote for the same system and it was over $4000.00 more than what Brian at SW VA Mechanical quoted, plus the other company didn't want to even talk about the Mitsubishi units that have the best reputation in the business. These more efficient units will save us money on our electric bill and they are so quiet you can't even hear them run. If you need a HVAC system or just need your old system repaired, give Brian at SW VA Mechanical at call and you will not be disappointed. They are more than fair on their prices and will treat you with respect and not try to burn you up on the charges. They are my new HVAC company. Scott Beverly

I had these guys install a new American Standard 3 ton heat pump this week. I got quotes from different companies and after a great deal of research chose SWVA Mechanical. Nick and Brian explained everything in detail and Jesse and Sam did our install. We are very happy with the entire process. Nick asked me a number of times during and after the install if we were happy and everything was to our expectations. They really care about customer satisfaction and it shows. Great product and install! I would highly recommend this company to anyone on the market for a new system. Great price and great product!

Air Conditioning Maintenance Service
Our professional air conditioning maintenance service is built around a comprehensive and detailed checklist. This ensures that every critical component of your system is inspected, cleaned, and tested. Our tune up is a proactive service designed to prevent unexpected breakdowns and optimize performance. We examine everything from the electrical connections and refrigerant levels to the blower motor and condensate drain. This thorough process goes far beyond just changing an air filter. It is a complete health assessment for your cooling equipment. Our technicians document their findings, providing you with a clear overview of your system’s condition. This preventative approach is the single best way to protect your HVAC system.
A central part of our maintenance visit involves cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils. These coils are fundamental to the heat exchange process that cools your home. The outdoor condenser coil releases collected heat outside, but it can become caked with dirt, dust, and debris. The indoor evaporator coil absorbs heat from your indoor air, but it can develop buildup that hinders its function. Our technicians use professional cleaning agents and techniques to restore these coils to pristine condition. This simple step can dramatically improve your system’s efficiency and cooling capacity. Clean coils allow your air conditioner to work smarter, not harder. This reduces strain on the compressor and lowers your energy consumption.
We conduct a meticulous inspection of all electrical components within your air conditioner. Loose or corroded electrical connections can create a serious safety hazard and are a common cause of system failure. Our technicians check and tighten all wiring and terminals to ensure secure and reliable operation. We test the system’s capacitors and contactors, which are vital for starting the compressor and fans. A weak capacitor can prevent your unit from running, leading to an emergency call on a hot day. By testing these parts during a maintenance visit, we can recommend replacement before they fail completely. This proactive electrical service ensures your system is both safe and dependable.
Proper refrigerant level is critical for the effective operation of your air conditioner. Refrigerant is the substance that actively transfers heat out of your home; it is not a fuel that gets used up. If the level is low, it signifies a leak somewhere in the system. Our certified technicians will expertly check the refrigerant pressure to ensure it meets the manufacturer’s specifications. An undercharged system will struggle to cool your home and can cause damage to the compressor. An overcharged system is equally problematic and inefficient. If a potential leak is suspected, we can discuss diagnostic and repair options with you. Maintaining the correct charge is key to both efficiency and equipment longevity.
A clogged condensate drain line is one of the most common reasons for an air conditioner to shut down. Your AC unit removes a significant amount of humidity from the air as it cools. This moisture collects and is channeled outside through a condensate drain line. Over time, this line can become clogged with algae, sludge, and debris. When a clog occurs, the water backs up and can cause significant water damage to your home. Most modern systems have a safety switch that shuts the unit off if a clog is detected. Our technicians thoroughly flush the drain line during every maintenance visit to prevent these inconvenient and damaging clogs.
The blower motor and assembly are the heart of your home’s air circulation. This powerful fan is responsible for pulling air through the return ducts, across the evaporator coil, and pushing it back into your home. Our technicians inspect the blower wheel for balance and cleanliness, as buildup can reduce airflow. We also check the motor’s electrical connections and amperage draw to ensure it is operating correctly. During this process, we will also inspect your system’s air filter. A dirty air filter is the number one cause of reduced airflow and poor system performance. We will replace it for you or show you how to do it yourself.
To make regular service easy and affordable, we offer comprehensive air conditioning maintenance agreements. Joining our maintenance plan is the most convenient way to ensure your system gets the care it needs every year. Plan members often receive benefits such as priority scheduling should an unexpected issue arise. You may also be eligible for valuable discounts on any necessary repairs or diagnostic fees. Most Common Air Conditioning Maintenance Questions
Regular maintenance is the most effective way to ensure a long and efficient life for your air conditioning system. Many Lebanon homeowners have important questions about this vital service. We have answered some of the most common questions our customers ask below.
For optimal performance and reliability, we strongly recommend having your air conditioner professionally serviced once every year. This regular schedule allows our technicians to keep your system running at peak efficiency. An annual tune up addresses the wear and tear that naturally occurs during a cooling season. It prepares your equipment to handle the stress of the upcoming summer heat. Neglecting this service can lead to a gradual decline in performance and an increase in energy consumption. Sticking to a yearly schedule is the best way to protect your investment. Think of it as a crucial annual checkup for your home’s most important comfort system.
The ideal time to schedule your annual air conditioning maintenance is in the spring. This timing allows our technicians to thoroughly inspect, clean, and tune your system before you need to rely on it daily. Servicing the unit in the spring ensures it is ready for the first heat wave of the season. It gives us ample time to address any potential issues we find without the pressure of an emergency. Scheduling in the offseason often provides more flexibility to book an appointment that is convenient for you. By taking care of maintenance early, you can enjoy a worry free summer with a reliable and efficient AC.
Skipping annual maintenance can have serious consequences for your cooling system. A neglected unit is far more likely to experience a sudden and costly breakdown. These failures almost always seem to happen during the hottest days of the year when you need your AC the most. You will also experience higher energy bills as the system loses efficiency over time. Furthermore, most manufacturers require proof of regular professional maintenance to keep the equipment’s warranty valid. Skipping service could jeopardize your warranty coverage for parts. Annual maintenance is a small investment that prevents much larger problems down the road. It keeps your system safe, efficient, and reliable.
A professional AC tune up from SWVA Mechanical is a comprehensive service that covers every aspect of your system. A major focus of the visit is on cleaning critical components for maximum efficiency. Our technicians will thoroughly clean the outdoor condenser coils to ensure proper heat transfer. We will also inspect and clean the indoor evaporator coil if it is accessible. The condensate drain line will be flushed to prevent clogs that can cause water damage and system shutdowns. We also clean the blower motor compartment to ensure proper airflow. This extensive cleaning process is vital for the health and performance of your equipment.
The tune up process also involves a long list of detailed inspections. We meticulously check all electrical connections, tightening them as needed to prevent failure and ensure safety. Our technicians will test the voltage and amperage of your system’s motors to ensure they are operating within specifications. We inspect and test the system’s capacitors and contactors to catch them before they fail. The refrigerant level is checked to confirm it meets the manufacturer’s precise requirements for optimal cooling. We also inspect the thermostat to ensure it is calibrated correctly and communicating with the system properly. This detailed inspection process identifies potential problems early.
Finally, our tune up concludes with a complete system calibration and operational test. After all cleaning and inspections are complete, we will start the system and monitor its performance. We measure the temperature differential between the supply and return air to verify its cooling effectiveness. Our technicians listen for any unusual noises that could indicate mechanical issues. We will confirm the system cycles on and off correctly as intended. This final test ensures that all the individual components are working together as a cohesive and efficient system. We provide you with a full report of our findings upon completion.
The cost of a professional AC maintenance visit is a small and predictable investment in your home’s comfort. This service should not be viewed as an expense but as a savings opportunity. The tune up fee is minor when compared to the high cost of a major repair or a complete system replacement. A well maintained air conditioner uses significantly less energy, which translates to direct savings on your monthly utility bills. In many cases, the energy savings realized throughout the summer can completely offset the cost of the maintenance service itself. It is one of the smartest financial decisions a homeowner can make for their property.
At SWVA Mechanical, we offer our maintenance services through a convenient and affordable annual plan. Our maintenance agreements are designed to provide the best possible value to our customers. The cost is often lower than paying for a one time service call each year. These plans make budgeting for HVAC care simple and predictable, with no surprise costs. We believe in transparent pricing and will provide you with all the details of our maintenance plans upfront. This allows you to choose the best option for your family’s budget. We are committed to making proactive HVAC care accessible to all homeowners in our community.
Investing in regular maintenance is the most effective way to avoid unexpected and expensive repair bills. During a tune up, our technicians can identify and fix small issues before they escalate into catastrophic failures. For example, replacing a failing capacitor during a maintenance visit costs significantly less than an emergency service call to fix a non working unit. By preventing these larger breakdowns, the maintenance service essentially pays for itself many times over. It protects you from the stress and financial strain of a sudden AC failure. Think of it as preventative medicine for your most expensive home appliance.
There are several important maintenance tasks that homeowners can and should perform themselves. The most critical DIY task is regularly checking and replacing your system’s air filter. A clogged filter restricts airflow, reducing efficiency and putting strain on the unit. We recommend checking your filter every month and changing it at least every three months. Another simple task is to keep the area around your outdoor condenser unit clear. You should ensure there are at least two feet of clearance around the unit, free of leaves, grass clippings, and shrubs. This allows for proper airflow, which is essential for the unit to function correctly.
However, a professional AC tune up involves many technical tasks that should only be performed by a certified technician. This work requires specialized tools, diagnostic equipment, and a deep understanding of complex HVAC systems. For example, checking and adjusting refrigerant levels requires an EPA certification and specialized gauges. Handling refrigerant is dangerous and illegal for uncertified individuals. Similarly, inspecting and testing high voltage electrical components like capacitors and contactors is extremely hazardous without proper training and safety precautions. Attempting these tasks yourself can lead to serious personal injury, expensive damage to the unit, or even a fire.
Hiring a professional from SWVA Mechanical ensures the maintenance is done safely and correctly. Our technicians have the training and experience to service your system according to manufacturer specifications. A professional service also protects your equipment’s warranty. Many manufacturers require proof of annual maintenance by a licensed contractor to keep the parts warranty valid. A DIY approach could void this valuable protection, leaving you responsible for the full cost of any failed components. For the safety of you and your family and the longevity of your system, trust the technical aspects of maintenance to our qualified experts. It is a wise and safe decision.
Yes, professional air conditioning maintenance will absolutely help lower your energy bills. An air conditioner can lose a significant percentage of its original efficiency each year it operates without upkeep. Our comprehensive tune up service is designed to restore that lost efficiency. The two most important factors we address are dirty coils and incorrect refrigerant charge. When coils are caked with dirt and grime, the system has to run much longer and harder to cool your home. By thoroughly cleaning the coils, we allow the unit to transfer heat more effectively, which uses substantially less electricity. This single step can make a major impact on your monthly bills.
A properly functioning air conditioner is a finely tuned machine. All its components must work together in harmony for it to operate at its peak efficiency rating. During our maintenance visit, we check refrigerant levels, lubricate moving parts, and test electrical components. An incorrectly charged system or a motor struggling against friction will draw more power than necessary. By addressing these issues, we ensure the entire system uses the least amount of energy possible to do its job. This holistic approach to maintenance guarantees that you are not wasting money on inefficient operation. Over the course of a hot Virginia summer, these savings really add up.
The potential for savings is significant for every homeowner. Studies by the U.S. Department of Energy and other industry groups have shown that regular maintenance can reduce your cooling costs by a noticeable margin. A clean and well tuned system simply does not have to work as hard to keep you comfortable. This reduction in runtime and energy consumption is reflected directly on your utility bill. The small annual cost of a maintenance plan is a proactive investment that delivers a clear return. It is one of the easiest ways to manage your household’s energy expenses during the cooling season.
Skipping regular air conditioning maintenance can lead to a variety of undesirable consequences. The most immediate impact you will likely notice is a steady increase in your summer energy bills. As your system gets dirtier and components wear, it loses efficiency and must consume more electricity to keep you cool. You will be paying more money for the same level of comfort. This decline in performance is often gradual, so you may not notice it at first. However, over time, the wasted energy and money become substantial. This is the first and most common penalty for neglecting your system.
A lack of maintenance also leads to a significantly higher likelihood of unexpected breakdowns. Small, correctable issues like a loose wire or a dirty component can cascade into major system failures. These breakdowns are not only inconvenient but are often very expensive to repair. They almost always seem to happen during the most extreme heat waves, when you need your AC the most. Furthermore, the lifespan of a neglected air conditioner will be much shorter than that of a well maintained one. You may find yourself needing to pay for a complete system replacement years earlier than you should have to.
Beyond the financial costs, failing to maintain your AC can negatively impact your family’s health and comfort. A dirty system can harbor mold and bacteria, which are then circulated throughout your home’s air. This can aggravate allergies and respiratory issues for occupants. The system will also struggle to properly control humidity levels, leading to a less comfortable and clammy indoor environment. In summary, skipping maintenance leads to higher bills, more frequent repairs, a shorter equipment life, and poorer indoor air quality. It is a risk that is simply not worth taking for any homeowner.
Yes, an AC maintenance plan from SWVA Mechanical is absolutely worth the investment. These plans are designed to save you money and provide you with year round peace of mind. The scheduled annual tune up included in the plan helps your system run at peak efficiency, lowering your monthly energy bills. The cost of the plan is often less than the accumulated energy savings it provides. Additionally, our plan members typically receive discounts on any necessary repairs, parts, or diagnostic fees. This provides an extra layer of financial protection should an issue arise between tune ups.
One of the most valuable benefits of our maintenance plan is receiving priority customer status. If your air conditioner unexpectedly breaks down, our plan members are moved to the front of the service queue. This means you will receive the fastest possible response and repair from our team, which is a huge relief during a heat wave. The plan also takes the burden of scheduling off your shoulders. We will proactively contact you when it is time for your annual tune up, so you never have to worry about forgetting this crucial service. It is the most convenient and hassle free way to manage your HVAC system’s health.
Ultimately, a maintenance plan is a proactive approach to caring for one of your home’s most expensive and important appliances. It helps you avoid the stress and high costs of emergency breakdowns. It extends the life of your equipment, delaying the need for a costly replacement. You are effectively shifting your spending from reactive, expensive repairs to proactive, affordable maintenance. For a small annual fee, you get improved efficiency, lower bills, priority service, and the confidence that comes from knowing your system is in expert hands. Most homeowners agree that this combination of benefits makes a maintenance plan an excellent value.
A thorough and professional air conditioning maintenance visit typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete. This timeframe allows our technicians to perform every step of our comprehensive checklist without rushing. We allocate sufficient time to meticulously clean the coils, inspect all electrical components, check refrigerant levels, and test the system’s overall performance. Our goal is to be both efficient with your time and incredibly thorough in our work. We want to ensure that when we leave, your system is in the best possible condition for the upcoming season. We respect your schedule and will arrive within the promised service window.
The exact duration of a maintenance appointment can be influenced by a few factors. The age and overall condition of the unit can play a role; a system that has been neglected may require more extensive cleaning. The accessibility of the indoor and outdoor units can also affect the time it takes to service them. For example, if the indoor air handler is in a tight attic or crawlspace, it may require more time to access safely. Our technician will communicate with you upon arrival if they anticipate the service taking longer than usual. Transparency and clear communication are very important to our team.
While we strive to be efficient, please know that our technicians will never cut corners on a maintenance visit. The safety and performance checks we conduct are critical to the reliable operation of your air conditioner. We would rather take a few extra minutes to double check a connection or clean a component more thoroughly. This commitment to quality is what prevents future breakdowns and ensures your peace of mind. You can be confident that our technician will dedicate the necessary time to do the job right. Our focus is on providing a high value service that protects your investment.
