Honest Reviews From Our Clients
Homeowners across Southwest Virginia trust SWVA Mechanical for HVAC services that are done right the first time. Here’s what real customers have to say about their experience:
We recently had our downstairs residential heat pump fail after 17 years of service. Given the age of the system, and the newer technology available, it made sense to replace both the downstairs and upstairs systems (3- and 2-ton units respectively). I obtained quotes from 4 different installers and ultimately, we selected the Mitsubishi Hyperheat systems as the replacement. Brian at SWVA Mechanical gave us the best price and best answers to our questions and we selected them to do the work. I don't think it could have gone any better. They showed up when they said they would, staged the work so that we could stay warm (installed in December), were respectful of our property and answered all of our questions. All of the SWVA Mechanical workers were friendly, cheerful, and most importantly knowledgeable and competent. Brian encouraged us to consider the Mitsubishi Hyperheat system which would function as a heat pump to below 0 degrees F. Frankly, I had my doubts that a system without auxiliary heat would function properly at such low temperatures without an auxiliary heat source. However, this review is being written 1 week after some of the coldest temperature in years (as low as 6 degrees F and -1-degree wind chill) and I can testify that my house stayed at the temperature set point throughout this very cold period, and in fact my house has been more comfortable than it ever has in similar conditions. I have temperature monitoring data that proves the system worked as Brian said it would. Additionally, the numbers show significant electricity savings compared to the operation of the old system. I will also mention that Brian and his partner Nick, were persistent in being able to get a relatively new steam humidifier installed about 2 years ago to work with the Mitsubishi heat pump and air handler. That required a lot of effort on their part, and a non-standard installation that went beyond the manufacturers’ instructions. I can verify that what they did worked, that it was done properly and is functioning as it should. To reiterate, I would highly recommend SWVA VA Mechanical to anyone in need of their services. They check all the boxes... knowledge, expertise, dependability, reliability, and integrity. Based on our experiences, we intend to use them to service our new system in the future and would not hesitate to work with them again. In my opinion, and based on my past experiences, it would be very hard to do better than SWVA Mechanical in this line of work and expertise.
I had emergency when the heating system stopped working during the coldest days these past 2 months and Brain came the same day I called SWVM. No other HVAC company in the area would even give me an estimate of when they could come. Brain got the system running just in time for the lows in the teens the next few nights. If you need help this company will do all they can to help you. I would highly reccommend them.
Recently had an installation as well as a preventative maintenance on another unit. I received good communication about scheduling and pricing and they answered any question I had. They showed up on time and performed the work well. After the install, Brian came by to make sure I was happy with the install and that I was fully taken care of. Subsequently for the preventative maintenance that Samuel performed, he thoroughly cleaned and tested the units and communicated to me the way that the unit was originally wired may not be optimal and explained the pros/cons of making a minor adjustment which I had him do. I'm very happy with the service provided and plan to use SWVA Mechanical for any future HVAC needs.
Called with HVAC issue on Monday had a resolution by Tuesday morning. Owner Nick is amazing. Goes above and beyond for his customers. Technician that came out was 5 star! Polite, conscientious regarding cleanliness, and super helpful. Pricing is extremely reasonable. I will never use another company!
Nick Cross and his team are amazing. Did a great job for us. They are polite, professional and knowledgable. Our challenge is with a house built in 1913 and their work has given us more control over our HVAC system and made our living space more comfortable. Price was very reasonable. Highly recommended.
Samuel came out and did a great job!! He serviced my unit inside and outside. Company was amazing to begin with. Answered and returned my calls every time. They were prompt in letting me know when they would arrive and informed me of all repairs before doing anything. Amazing job!! Highly recommended.
Highly Recommend! Brian and his team done an outstanding job installing my new Mitsubishi mini splits. I couldn’t have asked for a better HVAC Team than SWVA Mechanicals!
I recently had a heat pump replaced by SWVA and they did an excellent job. As we were weighing the options of repairing my old system and the cost and benefit of the new system they were very helpful. I never felt they were trying to up-sale me. I especially appreciate the fast service both on the repairs I needed on my old system and with this new install. I was in a bind because it was winter but they had me up and running with a new system fast. I would highly recommend them again!
I can't say enough good about the folks at SWVA mechanical. They came to my house and quoted the Mitsubishi unit to me and I had it installed within a few weeks. Every tech was very professional and respectful while in our home and did an outstanding job. I had one company give me a quote for the same system and it was over $4000.00 more than what Brian at SW VA Mechanical quoted, plus the other company didn't want to even talk about the Mitsubishi units that have the best reputation in the business. These more efficient units will save us money on our electric bill and they are so quiet you can't even hear them run. If you need a HVAC system or just need your old system repaired, give Brian at SW VA Mechanical at call and you will not be disappointed. They are more than fair on their prices and will treat you with respect and not try to burn you up on the charges. They are my new HVAC company. Scott Beverly

Nick and Brian explained everything in detail and Jesse and Sam did our install. We are very happy with the entire process. Air Conditioning Installation Service
Our air conditioning installation process begins with a thorough consultation at your property. We perform a detailed load calculation to determine the exact cooling needs of your space. This critical step ensures we recommend a system that is perfectly sized, not too big or too small. Our experts will discuss different system options with you, explaining the benefits of various SEER ratings. We help you understand how a higher efficiency unit can lead to significant energy savings over time. We answer all your questions, providing clear information to help you make a confident decision. Our goal is to match you with the ideal air conditioning system for your home and budget. We provide a transparent, written estimate before any work begins.
The correct sizing of your new air conditioner is the foundation of its performance. We use industry standard methods like the Manual J calculation to assess your home’s unique characteristics. This includes factors like square footage, window placement, insulation levels, and local climate data. A system that is too large will cool the air too quickly and then shut off, a process known as short cycling. This leads to poor humidity control, wasted energy, and unnecessary wear on components. Conversely, an undersized unit will run constantly without ever reaching the desired temperature. This causes extreme strain on the system, high energy bills, and premature failure. SWVA Mechanical’s precise calculations prevent these problems entirely. We guarantee your new AC is the perfect fit.
Before the installation day, our team ensures every detail is planned for a smooth process. We coordinate with you to schedule a time that minimizes disruption to your daily routine. Our technicians arrive fully prepared with the new equipment and all necessary tools. We take great care to protect your property, using drop cloths and other measures to keep the work area clean. The first step on site is the safe disconnection and removal of your old air conditioning unit. We handle the environmentally responsible recovery of any remaining refrigerant according to strict EPA guidelines. Our respectful and professional approach is evident from the moment we arrive. We treat your home as if it were our own.
The physical installation of your new air conditioner involves several precise steps. Our technicians will first prepare the site for the outdoor condenser unit, ensuring it sits on a stable, level pad. We then install the indoor air handler or evaporator coil, making sure it integrates perfectly with your existing furnace or duct system. Next, we carefully route and connect the refrigerant lines that run between the indoor and outdoor units. All electrical wiring is connected safely and according to local codes for reliable power. Finally, we install a new condensate drain line to properly manage moisture removal. Each connection is checked and double checked for integrity. We use only high quality materials for a durable, long lasting installation. Our workmanship is meticulous at every stage.
Your home’s ductwork plays a vital role in the performance of a new air conditioning system. Improperly sealed or insulated ducts can lead to significant energy loss and poor airflow. As part of our installation service, we can perform a thorough inspection of your existing duct system. We identify any leaks, blockages, or design flaws that could compromise your new AC’s efficiency. Our team can perform necessary repairs or modifications to ensure optimal airflow to every room. This step is essential for achieving balanced cooling and consistent comfort throughout your home. A well designed duct system allows your air conditioner to work as intended. We make sure your ducts support your new equipment perfectly. You will feel the difference in every corner.
After the physical installation is complete, we perform a comprehensive system commissioning process. This is a critical quality control step to verify that the equipment operates at peak performance. Our technicians will charge the system with the precise amount of refrigerant required by the manufacturer. We test all electrical connections and safety controls to ensure they are functioning correctly. Next, we calibrate your new thermostat and test the system through a full cooling cycle. We measure airflow and temperature differentials to confirm everything is running to specification. This detailed commissioning process maximizes efficiency and prevents future problems. We do not consider the job finished until we are certain your system is flawless. You can have complete confidence in our work.
The final step of our service is a complete walkthrough and customer orientation. We believe an informed homeowner is a happy homeowner. Our lead technician will show you the newly installed equipment and explain its components. We will guide you on how to operate the new system and use all the features of your thermostat effectively. You will also receive important information on recommended maintenance to keep your AC running efficiently for years. This is your opportunity to ask any remaining questions about your new air conditioning system. We take the time to ensure you are completely comfortable and satisfied with our work. Our commitment to customer education sets us apart. We leave you fully equipped to enjoy your new cooling system.

Most Common Air Conditioning Installation Questions
Choosing to install a new air conditioner is a major decision for any Lebanon property owner. Many questions naturally arise during this important process. We have answered some of the most common questions our customers ask below.
The final cost of a new air conditioning installation is influenced by several key factors. The size or cooling capacity of the unit, measured in tons, is a primary driver of price. Another significant factor is the system’s energy efficiency, indicated by its SEER rating. Additionally, the specific brand and model you choose will affect the overall investment required. The complexity of the installation itself also plays a crucial role in determining the final price. This includes the amount of labor needed and any modifications required for your existing ductwork or electrical systems. SWVA Mechanical provides a detailed and transparent quote. We ensure you understand every aspect of the cost before work begins.
Higher efficiency air conditioners with greater SEER ratings typically have a higher upfront purchase price. However, this initial investment can lead to substantial savings on your energy bills over the life of the unit. A more efficient system uses less electricity to produce the same amount of cooling. These long term savings can often offset the higher initial cost, making it a wise financial decision. Our experts will help you analyze the potential return on investment for different efficiency levels. We consider your cooling needs and the local climate in Lebanon to provide a clear picture of potential savings. We want you to choose a system that delivers both comfort and economic value for many years.
To get an accurate price for your specific situation, a professional on site evaluation is essential. SWVA Mechanical offers a free, no obligation estimate for all new air conditioning installations. One of our experienced technicians will visit your home to perform a thorough assessment. We will calculate your home’s cooling load, inspect your ductwork, and discuss your comfort preferences and budget. Based on this detailed evaluation, we will provide a comprehensive and firm price quote. This ensures there are no surprises or hidden fees later on. Our process is designed to give you complete clarity and confidence in your investment decision. We are committed to honest and upfront pricing.
The timeframe for a standard air conditioner replacement is typically between four and eight hours. This estimate applies to situations where we are replacing an existing unit with a similar model. In these cases, the existing ductwork, electrical wiring, and location are already suitable for the new system. Our skilled technicians work efficiently and cohesively to minimize any disruption to your home. We follow a streamlined process to ensure every step is completed correctly and on schedule. Most of our customers are enjoying their new, cool air by the end of the day. We pride ourselves on providing a timely and convenient installation experience for everyone.
Several factors can extend the duration of an air conditioning installation project. If the installation is part of a new construction project, it will naturally take longer. A complete system installation in a home that has never had central air requires extensive work. This includes designing and installing a full ductwork system, which can take several days. The accessibility of the installation areas for both the indoor and outdoor units can also impact the timeline. Furthermore, if significant electrical upgrades are needed to support the new system, this will add to the overall project time. Our team will clearly communicate the expected timeline after our initial assessment.
At SWVA Mechanical, our priority is to complete your installation with precision and care, not just speed. We ensure that our team has adequate time to perform every task to the highest standard. Rushing through an installation can lead to mistakes that compromise system performance and longevity. We allocate the necessary time for proper equipment placement, secure connections, and thorough system testing. Our project manager will provide you with a clear and realistic schedule from the very beginning. We keep you informed of our progress throughout the installation process. Our goal is a flawless installation that ensures your comfort for many years to come.
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, a standard measurement of air conditioner efficiency. The rating is calculated by dividing the total cooling output of a unit over a typical cooling season by its total energy consumption. In simpler terms, the SEER rating tells you how much cooling you get for each unit of electricity used. A higher SEER number indicates a more energy efficient air conditioner. This means the unit can cool your home effectively while using less power. Understanding this rating is key to choosing a system that will keep your home comfortable and your utility bills manageable. The United States Department of Energy establishes minimum SEER requirements for all new equipment.
Choosing an air conditioner with a higher SEER rating offers significant benefits. The most important advantage is lower electricity consumption, which translates directly into lower monthly energy bills. Over the 15 to 20 year lifespan of an air conditioner, these savings can be substantial. Higher efficiency units are also better for the environment because they reduce your home’s carbon footprint. Many high SEER systems come equipped with advanced features like two stage or variable speed compressors. These features provide enhanced comfort through better temperature consistency and humidity control. While high SEER units have a greater initial cost, the long term benefits often make them a very worthwhile investment for homeowners.
The ideal SEER rating for your home depends on your specific circumstances. For the Virginia climate, upgrading to a unit that exceeds the minimum standard is often a smart choice. Our team at SWVA Mechanical can help you weigh the upfront cost of a high SEER unit against the potential long term savings. We will perform a cost benefit analysis based on your expected usage and current electricity rates. We want to help you find the sweet spot that balances initial affordability with ongoing operational savings. Our goal is to equip you with a system that provides exceptional comfort without creating a financial burden. We provide the data you need to make an informed choice.
We strongly advise against attempting a do it yourself air conditioning installation. This is a complex task that requires specialized knowledge, tools, and certifications for a safe and effective outcome. Professional HVAC technicians undergo extensive training to understand the intricate electrical and mechanical components of these systems. They are skilled in handling refrigerant, which is a regulated substance that can be harmful if released. An improperly installed unit will not perform efficiently, leading to higher energy bills and poor cooling. The risks associated with a DIY installation far outweigh any potential cost savings. Protecting your home and your investment requires a professional touch from a qualified contractor. Trust the experts for this critical job.
A DIY installation is fraught with potential dangers and costly mistakes. One of the most significant risks involves the high voltage electrical connections, which can cause serious injury or fire if handled incorrectly. Refrigerant lines must be carefully connected and charged to precise levels; a leak can harm the environment and damage the system’s compressor. Incorrectly sizing the unit for your home is another common DIY error, leading to inefficiency and premature equipment failure. Furthermore, a DIY installation will almost certainly void the manufacturer’s warranty on your new equipment. This means you would be fully responsible for the cost of any future repairs or component replacements.
Hiring a licensed and insured contractor like SWVA Mechanical is the only way to guarantee a proper installation. Our technicians are certified to handle refrigerant and are experts in all aspects of HVAC installation. We ensure that your new system is installed according to manufacturer specifications and local building codes. A professional installation protects your warranty, ensuring that both parts and labor are covered. You gain peace of mind knowing that your system will operate safely, reliably, and at peak efficiency. Do not take a chance with your comfort or your safety. Let our qualified team handle your air conditioning installation from start to finish.
The most critical factor in your new system’s performance is the quality of the installation contractor. At SWVA Mechanical, we have built our expertise by working with a select portfolio of the industry’s most trusted brands. We proudly install systems from Goodman, Amana, Mitsubishi, Trane, Daikin, American Standard, and Carrier. Each of these manufacturers has a proven track record for quality engineering and customer satisfaction. Our selection process ensures that no matter which brand you choose, you are getting a reliable and effective product. We help you navigate these excellent options to find the perfect fit for your home. Our experience with these brands guarantees a seamless installation. You can be confident in the equipment we recommend for your home.
When considering top tier performance and durability, many homeowners look to brands like Trane, American Standard, and Carrier. Trane and American Standard are sister brands renowned for their robust construction and exceptional reliability over many years. Carrier, the original inventor of modern air conditioning, continues to be a leader in innovation and system efficiency. These manufacturers represent a legacy of quality engineering and are often at the forefront of developing new comfort technologies. Choosing one of these brands means investing in a long history of proven performance. Their systems are built to withstand demanding summer conditions while providing consistent, quiet comfort. An SWVA technician can detail the specific models that would best serve your property.
For customers prioritizing cutting edge efficiency or incredible value, we offer other fantastic choices. Daikin and Mitsubishi are undisputed global leaders, particularly in the realm of high efficiency ductless mini split technology. For homeowners seeking the best possible value, Goodman and Amana are exceptional options. These brands are famous for offering reliable performance paired with some of the strongest warranties in the entire industry. This provides homeowners with incredible peace of mind and financial protection for their investment. Ultimately, the “best” brand is the one that perfectly matches your budget and comfort goals. Our experts will help you compare the benefits of each manufacturer to make a confident decision.
It is often recommended to replace your furnace at the same time as your air conditioner, but it is not always a requirement. Air conditioners and furnaces often share the same indoor air handler or blower motor. A “matched system” is one where the outdoor AC unit and the indoor furnace or air handler are designed by the manufacturer to work together. This integration ensures that the system as a whole achieves its maximum stated efficiency and performance levels. When you replace only the air conditioner, you risk creating a mismatch between the new outdoor unit and the old indoor unit. This can compromise efficiency and even strain the equipment.
Replacing both systems simultaneously provides several distinct advantages for the homeowner. You ensure that your new air conditioner will operate at its peak SEER rating because it is paired with a compatible indoor unit. This leads to optimal energy savings and better overall system performance. A new furnace will also be more energy efficient, providing savings on your heating bills in the winter. Combining the two installations into one project can also be more cost effective than doing them separately. It reduces labor costs and minimizes the disruption to your home. You will also have a new, reliable heating and cooling system with a matching warranty.
There are situations where replacing only the air conditioner is a reasonable option. If your furnace is relatively new and in excellent condition, it may not need to be replaced. Our technicians at SWVA Mechanical will always perform a thorough evaluation of your entire HVAC system. We will assess the age and condition of your furnace and determine if it is compatible with a new, high efficiency air conditioner. We provide you with all the information and professional advice you need to make the best decision for your home. Our recommendation will always be based on what is most effective and economical for you long term.
The removal of your old air conditioning unit is a standard part of our professional installation service. Our process is designed to be safe, clean, and environmentally responsible from beginning to end. Before any work begins, our technicians will safely shut off all electrical power to the unit at the breaker box. This is a critical first step to prevent any electrical hazards during the removal process. We then begin the process of recovering any refrigerant that remains in the old system. This is a highly regulated procedure that we take very seriously. Our team ensures your old system is handled properly every step of the way.
According to federal EPA regulations, refrigerant cannot be released into the atmosphere. Our technicians are EPA certified and use specialized recovery equipment to safely pump the old refrigerant from the system into a certified container. This protects the environment and complies with all federal laws. Once the refrigerant is recovered, we can proceed with physically disconnecting and removing the equipment. This includes the outdoor condenser unit and the indoor evaporator coil located within your ductwork. We take care to avoid any damage to your property during this process. We work cleanly and efficiently to get the old unit out of your way.
After we remove the old units from your property, we ensure they are disposed of properly. Most of the materials in an old air conditioner, such as copper, aluminum, and steel, can be recycled. We work with local recycling facilities to ensure that as much of the old unit as possible is repurposed. This minimizes landfill waste and is part of our commitment to responsible business practices. Our team will completely clean the work areas when we are finished, leaving no mess behind. You will not have to worry about the old equipment; we handle everything from start to finish.
When you invest in a new air conditioning installation from SWVA Mechanical, your purchase is protected by two main types of warranties. The first is the manufacturer’s warranty, which covers the physical parts of the equipment itself. This typically includes major components like the compressor, condenser coil, and evaporator coil. The standard duration for a parts warranty is usually between 5 and 10 years. It is very important to have your new system registered with the manufacturer to ensure you receive the full warranty period. We handle this registration process for you to provide maximum protection for your new system.
The second type of warranty is the labor warranty, which is provided by us, your installation contractor. A labor warranty covers the cost of any workmanship related issues that may arise after the installation. This reflects our confidence in the quality and skill of our technical team. Should a problem occur due to the installation itself, we will return to correct it at no charge for the covered period. The length and terms of a labor warranty can vary, and we are always upfront about what our warranty includes. This dual protection of parts and labor gives you complete peace of mind in your investment.
Understanding the details of your warranty coverage is very important. We take the time to explain both the manufacturer’s parts warranty and our own labor warranty to you. We provide you with all the official documentation for your records. Some manufacturers may require proof of annual maintenance to keep the warranty valid. This is another reason regular tune ups are so critical for your new system. At SWVA Mechanical, we stand behind our work and ensure you fully understand the robust protection that comes with your new air conditioner. Our goal is your complete and long lasting satisfaction.
